Education Director


Status: Full time

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (occasional weekends)

Salary: Dependent on experience


Job Summary: Reports to the Executive Directors and is responsible for the management of the education/interpretation conducted by the Museum. Provides education programs which fulfill the Museum’s mission statement while meeting the needs of the Clark County School District’s curriculum, ensuring that all programs conducted in the Museum and on outreach are accurate and age specific. Must be detail-oriented (quality and precision-focused) and team-oriented (cooperative and collaborative).


Specific responsibilities

  • Supervises the Museum educational staff

  • Works with district teachers to schedule field trips

  • Conducts and develops tours for school groups and homeschool groups that link the Museum’s collections and exhibits to the school’s curriculum

  • Coordinates the production of educational materials, updating training manuals for tour guides as new exhibits are established

  • Develops new programs as needed

  • Coordinates the production of materials for teachers that are in keeping with school curriculum and learning levels

  • Is liaison between Museum and School District and develops ongoing relationship with area educators, working with them to increase their awareness of Museum’s resources and develops new methods of informing School District of those resources on an on-going basis

  • Trains staff and docents to conduct tours of exhibition galleries, and periodically evaluates tours that are being given

  • Schedules assignments for staff and docents for tours

  • Develops, distributes, receives and analyzes teacher evaluation of programs

  • Works to strengthen programs based upon evaluations

  • Maintains records of tour evaluations and compiles results for Executive Directors

  • Maintains current information for teacher web-site

  • Maintains inventory of teaching collection for Collection Coordinator

  • Is familiar with emergency procedures

  • Responsible for being Museum’s representative at CHOLLA

  • Responsible for scheduling and representing the Museum at educational outreaches, fairs or other booth opportunities

  • Works with Week-End Program Specialist on the development of programs

  • Participates in institutional special events when educational programming is necessary

  • Submits articles for the Museum’s quarterly newsletter

  • Works with Living Collection Department to coordinate use of animals for educational programs

  • Develops reports for Education Department funded grants

  • Acts as support for front office and gift shop as needed    

  • Assists with other duties as needed
